AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day

On October 7, 2007 the German Pinscher Club of America co- hosted AKC's Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the Barber & Oberwortmann Horticultural Center in Joliet, IL. This is the first time the GPCA has been involved with the RDOD. The event went very well considering we had record breaking high temperatures. There were approximately 300 people in attendance. The day began with Will County Humane Society's fund raising dog walk. The main ring events began at 10 am. We had Illinois Vest- A-Dog, 2 separate costume contests, Prancing Paws, a freestyle dog dancing group, Cindy Magnuson, an animal communicator, musical sits and a Blessing of the Animals. We also had a "B" match for working dogs sponsored by the Fox Valley Working Dog Association and Canine Good Citizen Testing. There were 8 teams that passed their CGC. There were 7 purebred rescue groups and 14 vendors present. A children's coloring contest was held and goodie bags were given to all that attended. All in all it was a great success!
